Over the course of several centuries, millions of artworks have become part of the Dresden State Art Collections . Despite war, destruction, loss and looting, most of the collection could be saved thanks to tremendous dedication and tireless scientific research.

Dresden has always been a magnet for artists from across the globe who are inspired by these masterpieces. This has given way to the development of new works which are connected to each other through space and time.

Not only the works by Orlik and Correggio bear witness to this global connection and local community. Both are exemplary for the interplay of world events and immediate neighborhood.
