At the centre is the image of a world that initially appears intact but which, upon closer inspection, is found to be increasingly riddled with cracks that ultimately cause it to fall apart. What seems stable at first glance is, upon closer inspection, revealed to be fragile and shaped by historical upheavals and the current tensions that permeate everyday life. The work makes it clear that this drifting apart can only be halted through collective action. Only by coming together, supporting one another, and working as a team can we repair what has been broken and rebuild it. Thus, the work highlights the lasting importance of 8 May 1945 and raises questions about how memory, responsibility, and solidarity — on both small and large scales — can establish the basis for peaceful coexistence.
